What’s the most exciting environmental project you can imagine in your community?
Cutting carbon emissions by 70% in 20 years? Local businesses running entirely on solar? Growing enough food to feed every resident? Big goals like these are possible — with vision, planning, and commitment. So we asked ourselves: why not here in Golden Bay? We looked at every part of life in our region — from ecosystems and energy, to food, transport, health, and creativity — and asked: what would true sustainability look like? Some things were already underway. Others needed more work. So we got busy. Through community input, research, and collaboration, we created a plan to help move Golden Bay toward a thriving, sustainable future. Because when we dare to imagine, we are shaping what’s possible. |
Takaka Catchment CollectiveWe are partnering with The Takaka Catchment Collective, a growing group of locals working together to protect, restore, and enhance the health of our waterways and wider catchment systems in Golden Bay.
|
The Wellbeing ProtocolWe are partnering with The Wellbeing Protocol, a Wellington-based nonprofit, to pilot their participatory grant-making tool here in Golden Bay. This empowers our community to collaboratively decide how external funding is allocated based on local needs.
|
Purpose Owned BusinessesWe partner with local business-owners who are interested in transitioning their model to a purpose-owned business. This creates a legal structure that prioritizes mission over profit, with ownership tied to its core purpose rather than private shareholders.

We offer mentorship for businesses, community projects, and individuals wanting to align their work with the Mohua Sustainability Strategy.
We host events to explore big ideas, spark new projects, and connect our community. Check out our events page or reach out if you've got an idea to share.
Mohua 2042 is powered by people. As projects grow and evolve, there will be plenty of ways to lend a hand, learn something new, and connect with other caring locals.
As a community-led trust, we rely on those who believe in a thriving future. If you'd like to donate, big or small - thank you. Every contribution helps us support out community's visions.
